One Single Impression: Spring

Here are my Spring haikus (and quasi-haikus) for One Single Impression. Once again I couldn't stop with just one or two once I started...

As you can tell I'm not an artist but I like to play with paint shop pro and I feel insecure with just the poems themselves. The flower pictures are stolen from the internet and manipulated until they are hopefully sufficiently different from their source that I'm not taking anything from their creators. The others are my own photographs given equally cruel treatment.

The bleak winter sky
Whets my appetite for Spring
It can't come too soon

Hidden in branches
Spring flowers lurk quietly
Waiting to surprise

They're intangible
Changes seen without our eyes
That whisper: Hope! Spring!

Age makes time move fast

While winter drags frozen feet
Crocuses still rise

Tall Cinderellas
Don magic fairy slippers
And dress for the ball

Every year I watch
Trying to catch the change
The magic surprise

I watch for Spring buds
But find myself always shocked
When blossoms erupt

Daffodilly-do
My eyes drink in your beauty
Ray of earthbound sun

gautami tripany - I hope you are right about life. Glad you like the pictures. I had fun making them

sian - thank you

leatherdykeuk - thanks. I was pretty pleased with how my home-made cherry blossoms came out. I just love paint shop pro!

sandycarlson - At 60, I am still awed each Spring. This year (since I don't have much else to do), I'm trying to do a photo study of the branches outside my window. I'm photographing them every day to see if I can capture the progress. It has always fascinated me that even though I'm watching I'm still caught off guard... and now I'm just rambling.

dianne - glad I made you smile... good to return the gift you give so often with your wonderful posts.

My students in NY (1000+ in the school total!) would all get a daffodil bulb to plant in front of the school. The PTA would take them outside class by class, the kids having a ball planting. I remember each year driving up one day and seeing a yellow blanket, never seeing how they make their magical appearance known. It was one of the best part of the year. You reminded me about it!

I liked the images you played with-I have photoshop elements uninstalled and I am so reluctant to get it up and running for fear I will find a whole new toy to play with! You showed a very nice progression. Haiku were never my strong point, even though I like short and sweet. You have come up with some very beautiful word images, so keep up the good haiku!

This was so touching. I loved the references to daffodils (one of my fav.flowers). Your choice of images added so much too.

Glad I stopped in,

Happy Easter Raven!

Hi Linda (snoopmurph) - what a great idea to do with kids - a great thing for everyone... I love the idea of a field of daffodils - or any flower. Ran across many wonderful photos when I was looking for crocuses and daffodils.

I just love paint shop. I'm not very artistic... I think I have a fairly good eye for beauty, but no hand/eye coordination or whatever it is you need to translate from the hand and eye to paper. I have always hungered to have that gift. Paint shop lets me play with pictures in a sort of pretend artist way.

As for haiku, they aren't natural to me either but I'm having fun exploring the idea.... and at least they are short to write.... unlike this response which is very wordy. I hope others will visit your site and read your beautiful poem for Uncle Mike.

Hi Geraldine,

You snuck your comment in while I was responding to snoopmurph. Thank you so much for dropping by. I tried to visit your sit but couldn't get there for some reason. I will try again.

Happy Easter to you too.

Thanks so much for your visit to each of my blogs this week and your thoughtful comments. I wish I knew how to ‘manipulate’ pictures as you do. I was late with last week’s prompt, but it’s here: Circles
Hugs and blessings,

Hi storyteller - thanks... I enjoyed your circles haiku... love the Black Elk quote... As far as manipulating images, just get Paint Shop Pro and click on lots of things... doesn't require any talent, just enthusiasm.
