The Theft of the 2008 Election

This is a BBC investigation of fraud at American polling places. Citizens of either party should be concerned about this. Greg Palast has been trying to raise American consciousness about this issue for a long time against the indifference and deafening silence of America's media. Each segment runs a little over 7 minutes. Worth watching no matter what party you favor.

I had just posted the Palast videos when Jay Simser over at Bailey's Buddy send me this one via email. I can't resist sharing it. It's very partisan, but if you leave the tag-line off the end there's some truth in it for how both parties advertise and how absurd the standards we PRETEND to hold our politicians to really is.

hi mimi - thanks for the reminder... I have been meaning to get myself started on that.

Wonderful posts, Raven! The first two are especially scary... I'm sure many people are looking towards the coming election with increasing trepidation; it could end up a real rat-bash. The one about Jesus is a hoot - if only they'd play it on CNN...and Fox!

Raven, thanks for posting these excellent videos and for bringing up the timely topic of voter suppression and intimidation.

I am very worried about the myriad ways this election could once again be stolen. I’ve summarized them into 3 categories:

1.Racism, - a deeply rooted and powerful thread of our American narrative. Though Barrack Obama’s candidacy is a testament to the progress we have made as a nation, the election process has forced us to face some ugly deep rooted truths.

2. Voter disenfranchisement- In Mississippi, a local election worker mistakenly purged 10,000 voters from her home computer just a week before the presidential primary, according to the center’s study released by the Brennnan Center for Justice at New York University School of Law.

3.Fear – a time tested technique

It is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of their leaders. That is easy. All you have to tell them is that they are being attacked and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country.

-Hermann Goering (Nuremberg Trials)

I am heeding Virginia Wolff's wise words and starting a blog of my own. I will have more complete thoughts and reflections posted within the next few days.
