Ruby Tuesday

Maryt/The Teach over at Work of the Poet has something called Ruby Tuesday which featuring all things red.

Since I never leave the house, I'm pretty ill-equipped to come up with much new red week after week. This week the strain is really starting to show. Of course given my limitations, you'd think I'd limit myself to one photo, but I just can't do it. I am by nature a person of excess, I guess and one - or even two - photos - just doesn't feel like enough. Sigh. And of course blogger is misbehaving big time tonight. Grrr.

This week's assortment is pretty wide-ranging.

My niece Cindy has recently converted some old slides to digital form. This is a rare photo of my mother and father actually looking pretty happy. Of course they are holding their youngest grandchild (I think it's their youngest) who is now in her 30s and they have been at rest for 18 years. They were born 5 days apart and died less than three months apart. Their last years were so full of grief and illness that it was nice to see this reminder that they had their happy moments. (Late added confession: I just realized these are supposed to be my photos. I didn't take this one. I just got excited because it had red and it's such a nice picture of my parents. I think my brother-in-law took it.)

This is some fall foliage I took with my old camera back when I lived in Callicoon (or maybe Narrowsburg).

These are some apples (I think) on my neighbor's tree.

Then - before I found the picture of my parents and the old tree picture, in desperation, I took one of my cloud shots, turned it red and then played with making it into a variety of kaleidoscopes. I'm not terribly pleased with them, but... they are very red. I think they probably look slightly better if you click on them and view them larger.

Happy Ruby Tuesday!

Both parents look happy; but your Mom's face is definitely a happy one - probably for that little package she's holding.
The red fall leaves - gorgeous! I can hardly wait for fall.
Your last 'desperate' attempt looks like red lace - how cool is that. I think I remember you have paint shop - I did this same effect once with a shot of the back of my daughter's hair - I should post that some day. Oh, maybe I should have Hubs take the back of my red hair and do it. So you know - I'm stealing this! :)
I see you had trouble with blogger too. It was still misbehaving two hours later! GRRRRRRR!

Your mother looks like you. Same smile. So nice of you to share your parents with us.

The cloud in red is rather fun, if you click on it to make it larger. Apples at this time of year are always a treat.

Really nice collection of photos.
Love the red in the plate.
The one of your parents is wonderful. It's what photos are for...remembering the good times.
Happy Ruby Tuesday.

I love that shot of your parents - they look very happy in that photo! It's sweet.

You really had some fun playing around with those clouds! It's amazing what these graphics programs can do! (and what WE can do with them!)

great series of red photos.

I'm enamored of the fall foliage and red apples. The best part of the shorter and cooler days is leaf peeping in New England and fresh apple cider. I don't want the summer to end, but there are seasonal rewards to be had...

Great job, Katherine, posting RED pix for Ruby Tuesday! Your parents' picture is lovely and of course the beautiful fall leaves. And if you have Paint Shop you can participate forever in Ruby Tuesday, so no worries! :)

I think it's perfectly fine that the photo of your parents was taken by family - close enough I say! Plus I really enjoyed seeing it.

the tree is amazing!!

and I love your kalediscope creations - the roundest one is my fave - did you do a creative photo entry yet? any one of those is perfect!

Hi Katherine, these are wonderful pictures for RRtU I'm thinking!
And if Mary says fine then you are in high cotton because she's the boss. Last week she forgave me for having my pink baby quilt. :-)
Seriously, you did really good with that trick of making the clouds red. And your parents are the greatest!
Happy RRtU, thank you for peeking at my Red Russia pictures.

It is amazing to see how you look like your parents!! I love that picture, never mind you didn't take it yourself, and I'm sure Mary the Teach doesn't mind either, such an endearing picture!

What an awesome picture of your parents. Those trees are beautiful too. Awesome job on the clouds, I would not have guessed what they were. I would have assumed they were clouds but not be 100% sure.

I love the picture of your parents and am glad you have it. I don't have any of mine together or many apart even.

Love the red tree....I know what it is called...I have one, too....I call it the spikey ball tree.

Apples are good...not potatoes for sure. :)

Love what you did with the last red ones...it does look like lace..someone said that already. Also looks like a rose window in a cathedral. Rorschach test here? :)

Wow, Raven, you've been busy!

I do like the photo of your parents, and I know what you mean about sometimes forgetting that they actually had some happy times, when you've witnessed a lot of bad times. Been there.

Seems like a wonderfully creative assortment of photos for Ruby Tuesday. I keep meaning to participate and may do so sometime soon, but this week I did HoTs on Tuesday at Small Reflections and posted nothing at Sacred Ruminations … primarily because I’m obsessed with the Olympics at the moment.
Hugs and blessings,

I enjoy the creative use of photoshop. :D Red clouds are cool.

Those are pretty amazing sky kaleidoscopes, Raven. You have a Sky Watch and a Ruby Tuesday rolled into one. Also a Creative Photography, if you participate in that.

That's a sweet photo of your parents, and a good reminder that they had their happy moments. It's a good reminder to you to lay down any burdens of guilt that they may have passed down.

I also enjoyed that photo of your parents. It's very nice and they do look happy. I love old photos.

I am so looking forward to the trees changing color in the fall. The photo of the red tree is perfect for Ruby Tuesday! The red clouds and kaleidoscope are cool.
