Weekly Wordzzle Challenge # 146

Ok... I know I lost my  mind a little bit with this week's words. But since I seem to be playing the game all by myself, I guess I only have to listen to myself complain. Still, in case anyone else is joining in... sorry about all the x's and v's.

Words for this week's 10-word challenge were: vacuum, visitors, vacation, vulture, vivacious, velocity, victory, value, virtue, vegetables   And for the mini: xylophone, xenophobia, xerox, x-ray,  x-factor

My 10-word:

Vivian Virtue was as vivacious as a vacuum cleaner sales person could be and her co-workers were beyond jealous of her monthly victories as best sales person.  They fell into two categories. Some loitered like vegetables and others hovered over prospective clients like vultures. Most failed to understand the value of  letting visitors to the store explore on their own and in their zeal for sales swooped down on them with the velocity of a speed boat in open waters. Next week, the store was sending Vivian on an all expense paid vacation to the Bahamas for winning best sales person 12 months running, and while the others were envious of her good fortune, they were glad that her absence from the store would give one of them a shot at the title - at least for one month.

My mini:

Teacher Xenobia Gerbles - because her own name began with X - had an annual assignment for her 5th graders. Called the X-factor assignment, each child had to find and do a report on at least one word that began with the letter X. Most of the kids chose xylophone or x-ray for some reason. In earlier years when xerox was still new, that had been popular but now-a-days it wasn't a word that meant much to kids. She was trying to encourage at least one or two of her more thoughtful children to explore xenophobia since it was something she feared was becoming to prevalent. It would be a way to open to the subject of why there was no reason to fear those who were different. Children this age still had open hearts and she hoped that in her own small way she could help them keep them that way.

And the mega:

The usually vivacious Anna Jones was troubled by the increasing xenophobia she noticed in media reports, in her students and neighbors. In difficult times, bigotry and racism often seemed to fill the vacuum of self identity created by fear and anxiety. The velocity with which the world was changing - and often not for the better - was profoundly disturbing to her. The worst vultures of society seemed to be winning victory after victory at the expense of the poor and helpless and presenting cruelty and greed as virtues, as some kind of moral values high ground. It made her sick. It made her furious.  She couldn't figure out what the x-factor was that these greedy, evil people had tapped into that allowed them to seduce people into giving over their power and working against their own highest good. She wished there was a way to x-ray the human brain to figure out how to create the same response to things that would be uplift society instead of harm the many to enrich the few. She had come back from vacation determined to be force for change. No more sitting like a vegetable in front of her computer wishing the world was different. For a start, she was handing out xerox copies of a questionnaire she had designed and was passing out to visitors to the store, friends, neighbors, members of her church.  Once she got a thousand responses and tabulated the results, she would figure out where to go from there. Her country needed saving and the least she could do would be to try to make a difference.

I'm away from home so probably not playing this week again - but I'll try to get back on track next week.

Love your stories - I want to fill out that questionnaire!
