Still having a mini Spring Fever Break, but think people really need to be made aware of this PBS program called Slavery by Another Name, the little known (at least I wasn't aware of it) history of how blacks were caught in a web of virtual slavery in the post Civil War South. This material should be made part of our school curriculum and every American who cares about truth and history should learn about this material.
Dr. M was watching this when I went to bed - it's exactly what his dissertation was about (post civil war Kentucky), so he's been thrilled with the series. And he says that it's well done & pulls no punches. I just wish it had come on before 10:00! But it will be around again...
Thanks so much for posting this. I watched an interview with the director and film maker—they have been working on this adaptation for three years. Unfortunately, last night was so scattered, I missed the viewing. Hoping to find a rebroadcast. I don’t think many people are aware of this chapter of our racial history. I hope these forgotten stories help us to look deeply into our common past and who we have become as a people.
Enjoy enjoy your break! and happy valentine's day.
I'm 70 years old going on twelve or sometimes 6, it depends on the day. Then again, sometimes I feel like I'm 110. I'm agoraphobic, permanently disabled. I live an odd life, but a relatively happy one. I have two cats, Merlin and Melissa. They are brother and sister and therefore known (it's a joke) as The Twins. They were 3 years old on May 7th.
