Weekly Wordzzle Challenge # 147

I'm still kind of weary from three days of getting up way earlier than I'm used to and having strangers (kind, life improving strangers, but strangers none-the-less) thump and hammer their way through my usually hermit-like existence. SO.... I'm going to put Mr. Linky up, and if I get a burst of energy, will do my own exercises tonight, but probably I'll do them tomorrow. My apologies.

Update: OK.. finally done. Glad I waited until Saturday, though. I don't think I had a functioning brain cell in my head last night. I kind of had fun with these words.

Word for this week's 10- word challenge were:  wanderlust, wisdom, popcorn, hearts and flowers, melting snow, bank account, chapter, painting, politics, imagination   And for the mini: organism, energy, harmonica, calibration, spread your wings and fly

My mega:

The melting snow and the subtlest signs of spring were awakening a wanderlust in Miranda Wisdom that she hadn't felt for a while. It had been a long, cold winter (literally and figuratively) and she was ready to empty her bank account and travel someplace where her imagination could be rejuvenated, where she could spread her wings and fly and soak in the energy of new surroundings, new people and new ideas. She wanted to start a new chapter in her life. No more eating popcorn and living through movies and other people's stories. For too long she had felt like some kind one-celled organism, a blob that was existing rather than living. It was time to stop obsessing about politics and all the hearts and flowers drama of celebrity lives and start having a life of her own, start living up to her name. Her life, she thought needed a major re-calibration. It couldn't be a subtle change, either, she thought. One thing she knew for sure. She needed to start painting again. And this time not worry about what anyone else thought or whether she was "good" or not. She needed to just do it. She picked up her father's old harmonica and started playing. It was odd, but playing this silly little instrument had always helped her focus her thoughts... and it made her feel like her father was there watching over her. A half hour later, she had come to a decision. She would quit her job, sell the house and move away from the past. She hadn't decided where yet. Maybe Italy. Maybe the somewhere in the Caribbean. She could decide that later. One thing she knew for sure, though. She was ready at last to fly.

My mini:

Watching scientist Sam Jones blowing on his harmonica - the song was one of his own compositions called Spread Your Wings and Fly - few would have guessed that he was actually in the the process of doing a calibration of the energy out-put of one-celled organisms. Such was the way of genius. It took it's own path to whatever destination it aimed at. Sam's genius often traveled by harmonica.

My 10-word:

Nibbling on a massive bowl of  buttered popcorn as she worked, Laura Sampson's felt like imagination was on fire and she dug happily into work on the next chapter of her  new book, Hearts and Flowers Politics and the Death of American Democracy. She genuinely feared for the future of her country. Those who governed (and those who voted for them) seemed to be without wisdom or gravitas and cared more about the bank accounts of their wealthy campaign contributors than the lives of the people or the future of the country. She hoped that by painting a vivid enough picture of where the country's current path was leading, that she could somehow break through the sound byte chatter that passed for news coverage and awaken the sleeping spirit of her great and beloved nation. She was hoping to get the book finished before the melting snow and arrival of Spring awakened the wanderlust that she could already feel pulling on her heart and feet. Maybe nobody would publish it, but she had to try. This was one book she was determined to finish. The conscience, the heart of her beloved country was at stake. Wanderlust would have to wait.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Word for next week's 10-word challenge: sharp as a tack, paper towels, sage, boiling water, mystery, salivate, news worthy, try it on for size, pardon, ambulance
And for the mini: misery, saga, flat as a pancake, pearls, octagon
Thanks you for playing.  Newcomers can check here for some guidelines to make the game more fun. There are no rules, just some general guidelines and tricks.
Daily Reminder # 291
Another day under the desk for Angel today.... though she relaxed at the end.
A long post tonight, but not an interesting one. Sorry.
It was a big day here on multiple fronts. Day three of the weatherizing team. Me up at dawn and very tired, Angel under the desk for much of the day. Tara came out and sat with us for a while. The insulation of the "attic" area is finished now and I think the furnace work is done. They still have to insulate the crawl space where the furnace lives. They changed out one light fixture which was fluorescent. They want to give me a new refrigerator which would be smaller (fine with me) and more energy efficient but the program doesn't offer bottom freezers and with my disability that really matters to me. It has been a life changer. They are going to see if they can get an exception and get the low freezer because of my problems. That would be nice,  but they have done so much for me that that would just be icing on the cake.
Not sure what those rolls were - some kind of insulation
I think. As you can see the day started foggy and wet
but at the end the sun came out and it the temperature
got up to the high 50s. Yippee!
So besides three strange (very nice) men thumping and hammering and coming and going and a freaked out kitty under the desk, I got into a very cranky battle with someone from the energy company. The way it works up here is NYSEG (which delivers the gas and electric) lets you buy your fuel from other sources. Last year I signed up with a company called NYSEG Solutions. I wasn't totally happy with them because I didn't think they made my options clear and once you've signed on with them for a year, it costs $35 each to opt out of electric and gas. They're renewal notice reads. "Thank you for continuing with us," so I thought they had resigned me without my permission and I was irked by that but not in the best place when it came so I let it ride. Then last week another company called and offered me this AWESOME deal. I told them about the issue with NYSEG Solutions. "No problem they said. It shouldn't be a conflict and if it is, you won't be approved for our program." (Lie.)  So that's the lead in. I got a letter yesterday from NYSEG saying I had opted out of the old program and this morning some snarky guy from NYSEG Solutions called me and was SO rude and told me it would cost me $70 to opt out and tried to tell me green was red an up was down. The call did not go well and we did not part friends. BUT later in the afternoon after I calmed myself I called them and asked to talk with a manager. Didn't actually need to do that. The young man (ain't I an old lady, though?) who answered was very helpful. He checked my account and the dates and said that I'm within the grace period to withdraw from them without penalty. I have until  the first week in April to make up my mind. I felt proud of myself for taking action and I actually feel better about NYSEG Solutions, though if the new place actually says in print what they said on the phone, I'll probably go with them since the cost is about half.
I don't know why Angel is so upset by the strange
people. They don't bother me a bit. As long as they
don't try to touch me, they can do whatever they want.
I know that's a boring story and I apologize, but it's always a big deal to me when I stand up for myself. I spent much of my life letting myself get run over by bullies and I still backslide sometimes. Amazing that by taking action - I got my anxiety lifted and I know that I have options. That said, the whole system is nuts.
Even before our "guests" arrived, Angel was
sad and anxious. Nothing good comes when her
human gets up at 7:00 am. Nothing.
I also went a little Huffington Post junky today, but while I was doing it I had what I think is a great idea. So I forget what I was reading but so much of what the GOP around the country is proposing for the country is truly regressive that I got this idea that Democrats and Progressives should start a campaign to "re-brand" them as the Regressives. (Someone responded to this suggestion offering the Grand Old Regressive Party or GORP, which I like too.) Anyway, the term is accurately descriptive of people who want to redefine rape, call miscarriages homicide, repeal child labor laws, and demolish unions, to name just a few examples. I think it's descriptive, accurate, catchy and funny. And a great response to a party that treats the word Progressive like it's a swear word.
Towards the end of the day, Angel came out of hiding and relaxed
a bit. Not completely, but she seems to have decided that our
visitors don't actually wish to kill her.
So anyway, except that I'm REALLY tired, it was kind of a good day. The Weatherizers don't work on Fridays, so the girls and I have a few days to relax (and in my case sleep) before we are invaded again on Monday morning. I am feeling tired, but very blessed. I apologize this is a very self-interested, me, me, me post with not much inspiration in it. But I'm tired. And abnormally pleased with myself.
This is the nozzle thingy they put on my kitchen tap.
If you push up on the silver band, the water stream
becomes solid. How cool is that? Oh- and it's on
a ball, so you can point it in different directions.
Some things I'm grateful for today: (items in red are pre-gratitude.... are you listening Universe? The way it's supposed to work is I thank you and you cough up the loot. Of course, I think there's a thing where I'm supposed to have absolute faith that that will happen and I'm probably a little shaky on that, but couldn't you cut me some slack and manifest a clothes dryer or $25,000 or some paint? Or Nintendo would be fun...)
Daily Reminder # 290
Well, I'm pooped. Got up at 7:15 which is the middle of the night to me and am especially tired because I was anxious and I didn't sleep much in any case. Angel spent most of the day under the desk. Tara Grace - who seems to take commotion in her stride - is increasingly sniffly, which has me kind of worried. I think the Viralys for cats (supposed to appeal to their taste buds) is not going down well. Literally. Maybe it's the stress of all the excitement and the off hours made increasingly off kilter because of daylight savings time, but meals are only being nibbled at by both cats. Tara's drinking a lot of water, which is probably a good thing, but also makes me anxious. To make matters worse, my shopper lady bought a different flavor of cruchies (the thing Tara lives for) and nobody likes them either, so we are in something of a mess here in Hancock.
They guys worked hard all day up in the "attic" and did some work on the furnace, though I guess they were missing a part or something, so they have to do it again tomorrow. I don't know where they stand as far as how much is left to do. I forgot to take pictures of the gadgety thing they put on the kitchen faucet. It's really cool, though.
Tomorrow Margaret will be here too, so I think I'll ask her to get some Saint Patrick's Day cupcakes and some juice for the nice people working for here as a small way of saying "thank you."
The good thing today was that first thing in the morning I saw my first Robin of the season, followed in no time by a WOODCHUCK, which waddled by too fast for me to really get a good photo. And I'm pretty sure I saw a blue jay too, but it was way far away and it was a grey, gloomy day.
Out of hibernation! Spring is coming! Spring is coming!
Daily Reminder # 289
Very tired this evening. Got up very early for the weatherizing people who didn't actually arrive until about 1:30 in the afternoon. They'll be here very early for the next few days though, so I guess I'm going to have to have a sleep rhythm make-over... or try. I've wanted to do that for months and not been able to do it, so I guess we'll see. Meanwhile, I'm very tired and a touch anxious although the three men who came were extremely nice. And they are doing wonderful things. It's a pretty cool program. Today, they looked around and I think got set up for the days to come when they will insulate my crawl space (basement-ette) where the furnace is, insulate the room where the water heater is (and fix the ceiling which is coming down a little - eeeek...). They'll also add insulation below the roof and maybe in some other places. Today, the head guy replaced the two or three remaining bulbs that weren't energy efficient and put this very cool nozzle thingy on my kitchen sink. You can push this little thing up and down and the water shifts between regular flow and a spray. They're going to replace the shower head too. And they also fixed the weather stripping on my front door, something that has been much needed.  I guess they'll do the back door too.
Angel doesn't take these incursions into her kingdom (princessdom?) very well. She boxed herself under the desk for most of the afternoon. I suspect she will do that tomorrow or hide under the blankets on the bed or somewhere else. Tara Grace takes all these things in her stride. Maybe because she lived on the streets for so long, she knows real danger when she sees it. In any case, I guess we'll survive. They said it will take about 4 days but they don't work on Fridays, so I guess they'll be back on Monday next week too. It's all very wonderful and very anxiety producing.  Tragically, they told me that the weatherization program may be cancelled next year. Besides being good for the environment and helping many, many, many families in Delaware County, this program employs about 20 people who will lose their jobs if it is discontinued. More penny wise, pound foolish "savings" by the geniuses who run things. Makes me cranky.
Also had a visit from the Pat from the Office for the Aging and donated my decorative walker to their offices. Since I haven't been able to contribute anything for Margaret's help, it made me feel a bit better about that. And I'm glad that someone will get use out of it. I hate it when things get wasted when someone could use them.
Angel's day began peacefully enough except for
the fact that her human was more than a touch cranky.
The sun was out, toys were thrown, hugs were given.
Things were going pretty well.... and then...
the strangers came.... three of them with odd smells
and boots and funny machines. It was awful....
Thank Heaven for the secret cave under the desk where they
would never find her.
Anyway, that's the big news.
Daily Reminder # 288
I'm feeling kind of anxious because the weatherization people called this afternoon and said they are coming tomorrow. I don't do so well with short notice, especially since I don't even  know what it is they plan to do. I imagine I'll survive, but I wish I'd had some notice and some more information. Such is life. A gift is a gift and this is an awesome gift.
No photos tonight. While I was looking for something to post I ran across this wonderful new age meditation music above. I hope you like it. I think it's lovely.  Then when I was looking for a second video, I thought of Serge Kahili King who had a great influence on my life.  I was fortunate enough to do a 2 day workshop with him on a rare visit he made to NYC.  There are a bunch of videos with the principles of Huna but I didn't want to post seven videos, so I chose a couple of other ones which I hope you will find interesting and maybe even inspiring. I HIGHLY recommend Serge's book The Urban Shaman.  The bottom video - an interview he did in Australia isn't very good visually, but it has a lot of content. I hope you'll take the time to listen to it.
Daily Reminder # 286
Just some gratitude this evening and a request for prayer for my friend's dog Josie. Josie is an old girl, a "nana dog," if ever there was one. Right now she is kind of tired and having some trouble peeing, so any good thoughts and good energy you can send her way will be very welcome.
This is Josie about 6 years ago.  When her person rescued Angel,
Josie carried her on her back. She has a special place in my heart just for
that.  And who could resist that smile?
Daily Reminder # 285
Just a couple of political-ish videos (quite good, though) and some gratitude this evening. Another gloomy wet day here with no new photos indoors or out.  Also a recommendation to anyone who hasn't seen them to watch the 3 Swedish movies based on books by someone named Stieg Larsson.  I hear they are awesome to read. The movies are brilliant. Dark, gory and fairly violent but totally absorbing and the actors are astonishingly good. The first of the series is called The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo
Weekly Wordzzle Challenge # 146
Ok... I know I lost my  mind a little bit with this week's words. But since I seem to be playing the game all by myself, I guess I only have to listen to myself complain. Still, in case anyone else is joining in... sorry about all the x's and v's.
Words for this week's 10-word challenge were: vacuum, visitors, vacation, vulture, vivacious, velocity, victory, value, virtue, vegetables   And for the mini: xylophone, xenophobia, xerox, x-ray,  x-factor
My 10-word:
Vivian Virtue was as vivacious as a vacuum cleaner sales person could be and her co-workers were beyond jealous of her monthly victories as best sales person.  They fell into two categories. Some loitered like vegetables and others hovered over prospective clients like vultures. Most failed to understand the value of  letting visitors to the store explore on their own and in their zeal for sales swooped down on them with the velocity of a speed boat in open waters. Next week, the store was sending Vivian on an all expense paid vacation to the Bahamas for winning best sales person 12 months running, and while the others were envious of her good fortune, they were glad that her absence from the store would give one of them a shot at the title - at least for one month.
My mini:
Teacher Xenobia Gerbles - because her own name began with X - had an annual assignment for her 5th graders. Called the X-factor assignment, each child had to find and do a report on at least one word that began with the letter X. Most of the kids chose xylophone or x-ray for some reason. In earlier years when xerox was still new, that had been popular but now-a-days it wasn't a word that meant much to kids. She was trying to encourage at least one or two of her more thoughtful children to explore xenophobia since it was something she feared was becoming to prevalent. It would be a way to open to the subject of why there was no reason to fear those who were different. Children this age still had open hearts and she hoped that in her own small way she could help them keep them that way.
And the mega:
The usually vivacious Anna Jones was troubled by the increasing xenophobia she noticed in media reports, in her students and neighbors. In difficult times, bigotry and racism often seemed to fill the vacuum of self identity created by fear and anxiety. The velocity with which the world was changing - and often not for the better - was profoundly disturbing to her. The worst vultures of society seemed to be winning victory after victory at the expense of the poor and helpless and presenting cruelty and greed as virtues, as some kind of moral values high ground. It made her sick. It made her furious.  She couldn't figure out what the x-factor was that these greedy, evil people had tapped into that allowed them to seduce people into giving over their power and working against their own highest good. She wished there was a way to x-ray the human brain to figure out how to create the same response to things that would be uplift society instead of harm the many to enrich the few. She had come back from vacation determined to be force for change. No more sitting like a vegetable in front of her computer wishing the world was different. For a start, she was handing out xerox copies of a questionnaire she had designed and was passing out to visitors to the store, friends, neighbors, members of her church.  Once she got a thousand responses and tabulated the results, she would figure out where to go from there. Her country needed saving and the least she could do would be to try to make a difference.
Daily Reminder # 284
Alas, I don't have any new photos today. The cats have been keeping a low profile and it has been gray and rainy/snowy/sleety all day. The turkey vultures are around but sometimes I think (no ego here) they live to torment me. They fly low by the house when Angel is in my arms or I'm on the phone or... and then as soon as I get the camera out and try to zoom in they are off to do fly bys over someone else's house. Very frustrating.
Neale Donald Walsh sent and excellent "God Wants You to Know" message today so I'm going to let him do the work yet again. Backed by the Beatles.
On this day of your life, dear friend,
I believe God wants you to know...
...that imagination is your greatest gift.
Do not be afraid to use it.
Imagine yourself as being okay right now.
Totally okay.  Imagine yourself as Whole,
Complete, and Perfect.  With nothing
to change, nothing to "improve."
Imagine your heart as being open
again, your life as if it were starting over
in the most important ways. Can you imagine this?
Then you have just created Tomorrow.
Love, Your Friend....
