Ruby Tuesday and Post #500!

Well, it's Ruby Tuesday (hosted by Mary/the Teach at Work of the Poet) and also my 500th blog post today. I offer an odd mix of reds today. Not very happy with any of these photos. Dirty windows, gray skies are NOT an agoraphobic photographers friend. My camera has a lot of zoom, but not enough to adequately catch hummingbirds from a distance behind dirty windows. But I tried. I think I'll have to point out that they are there, though. Sigh. Photos I missed this week... I don't know if everyone knows, but hummingbirds are drawn to red. Twice yesterday as I headed to my back door to sit and take photos a hummingbird was buzzing my red prayer flag. In Native American traditions, hummingbirds are messengers of joy. Unfortunately I wasn't fast enough to catch these events on film which dimmed my joy a bit... but not completely.

If you look carefully, dead center in this photo and the next,
you'll see a
little hummingbird resting on the branch. And there's
a hummingbird in the third photo too ... I love my flowering
quince. It's adds so much beauty and the birds love it too

I mentioned in my post yesterday that I ran out of Tara Grace's beloved crunchy treats and we had a week of howling and grumbling. Now I have 10.5 pounds of them... So I had to add this photo.

I never saw a Baltimore Oriole before Saturday. I saw this one just long enough to get a photo of it's butt. I'm hoping it will return and let me get a picture of the rest of it.

Gotta have a kitty... there's some red on the box.

Ok... this one is stretching it, but if you look REALLY
carefully, there's a little red spot on the bee's wing...

HAPPY TUESDAY!

I know I should be commenting on your RUBIES - and they are gorgeous! - but really I have to tell you how IMPRESSED I am with the Baltimore ORIOLE!!! I even have special oriole FOOD out in my yard - and I LIVE IN MARYLAND and I NEVER get an oriole... have never seen a one in my yard ... or in my neighborhood. But I keep trying! LOL! I don't know WHY I don't have them! I SHOULD have them! You are the luckiest woman alive to have an ORIOLE in your yard!!! AND to have gotten a photo of it! GOOOOOO RAVEN!

Congratulations on your 500th blog post ~ I like your all of your photos for Ruby Tuesday, especially the Baltimore Oriole's butt. Haha.

I also love your kitties ;-)

The first shots really look like paintings to me! So pretty!

You captured all three humming birds and the oriole beautifully. I loved the cat draped over the box. They seem boneless when they lay like that!

Lovely photos. The second one of the humming bird is really good. We don't have humming birds here so I've only seen them on TV and pictures. I imagine they can't be easy to catch with the camera!

I did some extra musing about your wordzzle challenges as "therapy" in a post yesterday: http://islandofvoices.blogspot.com/2009/05/in-and-out-of-control.html

(I still have serrated black and white photos of fields. Only the cognizati were privy to the fact that they were squirrel portraits.)

the hummingbirds are lovely
So glad you included the bee picture...of course it qualifies

Happy Ruby Tuesday!

the quince is amazing! so vivid!!

I saw the birds right away, hummers are notoriously hard to get photos of, I think you did a great job

I love kitty's body language on the box - such a sense of "OY!" ;)

I didn't do a ruby tuesday this week, sometimes nothing speaks to me and when that happens I have learned to just be quiet ;)

The quince blossoms are gorgeous. I'm sure your kitty thinks so too. I KNOW it's NOT thinking of attacking the birdies. Oh my, NO! It's just admiring the blossoms. ;-)

That quince is stunning. How wonderful to have it right there in your yard!

We had hummingbirds out on the farm. They would come to the door looking in the house to get our attention for some more food. We loved watching them and they were not afraid of us. Love the photo of them. good eye.

What beautiful flower, birds, yard and cats! I wouldn't complain about these photos - nature is beautiful and the birds do not care about clean windows. As if they are posing specifically for your 500th post!

Love the azalea, Raven! I posted photos of mine but I've yet to see a humingbird on it! We did see one at a greenhouse we visited recently.

I love the oriole! Great capture!

Your pictures are beautiful. I especially love pictures with stories. Love cats, too. At one time we had 15 when I was growing up.

You must be a bird watcher.

Thanks for your visit!

Congratulations on your 500th post.

These are BEAUTIFUL! Love the hummingbirds, they're so adorable.

I saw an oriole this evening, but so did a dog before I could get my camera set up, so I don't even have a butt shot! LOL

That's a beautiful quince!.. and the birds in your yard are just amazing!.. hummingbirds!... that sounds so exotic! We have things like 'hedge sparrows' and 'thrush' and 'grey wagtails'.... they are beautiful too, just not that exotic, lol!

I love all of the beautiful red flowers, the darling bird, but my favorite is that kitty perched on the box. You have gotten some really terrific kitty photos!

Beautiful ruby shots, Raven. I don't know if I've ever seen a Baltimore Oriole in person either. Neither the bird nor the athlete.

HAPPY 500th! Retroactively of course.
