Weekly Wordzzle Challenge # 143

Running both late and unenthusiastic today, so I'm going to post next week's words and Mr. Linky and put my own offerings up tonight or tomorrow.  I notice that I slipped up last week and put two words (Pluto and Space Ship) that kind of go together into the words list. It's the one thing I try not to do, but such is life. Besides the Blahs, Angel seems to have it in for wordzzles this week. Every time I star to work on one, she comes for hugs.

Word for this week's challenge were:  Pluto, space ship, make-up, peerless, wishing well, baby shower, cabbage, angels, ample bodied, plunge  And for the mini: chapter six, clams, spark plug, hustle and bustle, fragments

My mega:

Peerless Wonderford, the famed Romance novelist. was hosting her sister Stephanie's baby shower at her home, Wishing Well Manor, dressed in full make-up, her ample bodied form swathed in a lavish gown with a plunging neckline that left little to the imagination. Her publicist has insisted that this would be a great photo op and publicity for her up-coming book, FragmentsAngels, Clams and Cabbages. Stephanie and Peerless (who had been born Sandra) were as close as two sister's could be. Peerless - who was still unmarried and childless - envied (but not in a mean way) the warmth and the happy hustle and bustle of her sister's home and life. Stephanie's oldest child - seven year old Stanley - was an enchanting and delightful spark plug of a boy with a vivid imagination from whom she often gleaned ideas for her books. In fact her current book had been inspired by a story he had told her about a space ship and visitors from Pluto. As agreed, after the other girls arrived and the photo op was behind them, Peerless went upstairs and changed back into Sandra (who wore favored blue jeans and a sweat shirt over low cut gowns), They partied happily for hours and when they left, Peerless felt relaxed and happier than she had in weeks. Not only had she enjoyed the party, but the writer's block which had left her stuck at Chapter Six was gone. She would have the book finished on time after all. And in a few weeks, she'd have a baby niece to hold and hug and dote on. Life was good.

My 10-word:

When the ample bodied aliens from Pluto, waddled off their space ship and plunged into the midst of Mini's baby shower, they caused less of a stir than one might have expected. Because Mini's husband was a Sci-Fi enthusiast and movie producer, no-one in attendance thought much of it, assuming they were part of one of Frank's projects. He had won numerous awards for his peerless skill as a make-up artist, the most famous being the walking cabbages he had created for his movie Fruit of the Dark Wishing Well.  At present, he was working on a film called No Angels These, so Mimi and her friends just thought he had come up with another astonishing creature. Fortunately, Plutonians are among the Universe's most peaceful and generous aliens and these guests (on an visit not authorized by their planet's governing powers) were were just curious about human life. They had a great time at the party and disappeared without a trace - unless you count the amazing aliens Frank came up with for No Angels.  Back on Pluto, there was general bafflement about how any mere Earthling could have come up with such Plutonian looking beings.

And the mini:

Sam Sandorval thought his cousin Fred's blog - which he called Hustle and Bustle - was inspired. Each week Fred chose fragments from Chapter Six of a wide variety of books to post and write about. One week you  might find information on how to prepare clams, on another biographical material on some star or other, words from a romance novel -or ... well, you get the idea. You never knew what would show up. This week's Chapter 6 was about spark plugs... which was coming in very handy to help Sam - a nerd's nerd for whom cars were alien beings - to fix his girlfriend's ailing car. She was impressed. He was happy.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Word for next week's 10-word challenge: parapet, fluster, farm grown, astonishing, march, start from scratch, still crazy, ice cubes, fetid, goose
And for the mini: foster children, window washer, chipmunks, chip, pillage
Thanks you for playing.  Newcomers can check here for some guidelines to make the game more fun. There are no rules, just some general guidelines and tricks.
Daily Reminder # 262
You probably have to click on this one and I'm not sure it actually shows
what it was supposed to. Yesterday,  I was on the phone and I looked
at the branches and thought, "change has started." I'm always stunned
at how Spring happens. Looking at this comparison photos, I think
it may have been wishful thinking/imagination, but... Spring IS coming.
I just have to keep reminding myself of that.
Except for a couple of not very good photos of branches - it wasn't a very pretty day - I didn't get any photos. I messed with the two above because I thought it showed the comparison (if there actually IS a comparison) better. I thought Neale Donald Walsh and God had a good message today, so that's what I'm posting tonight along with two songs I really like that have nothing to do with anything except that I like them.
On this day of your life, dear friend,
I believe God wants you to know...
...that it is not necessary to "prove yourself" to anyone.
Do your best. That's all you can ask of yourself. If you
did your best and things just didn't work out, you don't
owe an apology to anyone. And you certainly don't
need to feel 'bad' about it -- or, worse yet, guilty.
Stop beating yourself up. What happened is what
happened. You're not the 'villain' here, I promise. It's
just what happened. And there is a Soul Reason, I
promise you.
Love, Your Friend....
Daily Reminder # 260
Paint Shop Pro and my lack of talent rear their ugly heads again today...
It was a gray, bleak day without a single photo op - feline or snow. Temperatures were in the 50s, though, so that was nice. The Post Office skipped me again, but when I called promised to deliver my mail tomorrow, so that's nice.  I've been dreaming a lot of late, a mix of dreams that are sleep versions of computer games and then really odd dreams. I had one this morning which I have decided to receive as a kind of odd Valentine from the Universe or my psyche or... who knows... Of course I had to resist the initial impulse to think it was an omen of death, but once I got over that, I think it was kind of sweet.
I only remember fragments, but I was being sent on a rest or break or something from some place... I have no idea where that was or why I was being sent to rest, but.... I was trying to decide where to go. I was trying to decide between my apartment in NYC (which I think was winning) and going to Narrowsburg, NY, one of the places where I had bad adventures with sadistic/crazy/alcoholic landlords a few  years back before I got my house. Anyway, the next thing I remember, I'm in a field and I go up to someone and ask them where I am and how to get to NY (I think). Nobody speaks English, though but they point me in some direction and the next thing I remember I'm in a kind of tunnel structure waiting for a bus. There are quite a few people sitting on benches with me but none of them speaks much English either. At some point I don't know if I'm trying to talk to someone or reading or looking in my bag for something, but I suddenly realize that two buses have arrived and people are getting on. I don't know which one is the NY bus so I run to the front bus to find out but the driver slams the door in my face and drives off and the other bus pulls off without me too.
So I go inside a building which is there and feels kind of like a vets office... I'm in the hallway and a small (very small) brown bear (well, it isn't a bear but I think it's a bear in the dream) is walking down the hall and I reach down and pet it. It's very, very silky. I call out and ask if they know there's a bear in the building and somebody says yes, I think., but then the bear goes into the room in front of me and turns white and grows pink and lavender cartoon feathers out of its head and does a bunch of other tricks and then starts to head down the hall. I realize that I haven't taken a picture and try to get one with my cell phone (I've never owned a cell phone in real life). And am asking the people about this amazing magical animal. They say it's actually a rat. Then a man comes towards me - and I look at him and he is Rick Henrickson who was the most intense (and unrequited) love of my life. He hands me a torn post card that seems to be in my mother's handwriting and says, "I wasn't sure if I should give this to you but..."  I try to read it, but I can't focus on the words.  Then the real life Angel jumps with a thud on the real life me and I am awake and out of the dream.
Anyway, I decided it was very nice of the man I loved with such intense passion to visit my dreams in a magical vets office on Valentine's day. Rick - even though he didn't love me back romantically - changed my life. He probably saved my life. He was the first person to tell me that my brother wasn't my friend. He was the person who talked me into going into therapy. He was the first person to tell me that my ideas had substance and that my opinions mattered and encouraged me to speak. He changed my life in so many ways. It was nice to see him, if only for a brief instant in a dream.
Daily Reminder # 259
You can't tell by looking at this, but I worked really hard on it.
Well, I'm going to use the fact that it's Valentine's Day to be lazy.  Valentine's Day is weird day for me. First off, I'm unmarried and unattached so nobody sends me Valentines. Second, it was my evil brother's birthday (how's that for Divine Irony?), so it carries sisterly affection and sisterly dislike and the confusion that arises from those twin feelings. I'm pretty sure I had my first meeting with my therapist on Valentine's Day too... I know it was on or near my brother's birthday because I was struggling with my feelings about having become estranged from him and what would it be wrong (mixed message) to send him a birthday card or wrong (unkind) not to. I know to most people this would be pretty obvious, but I can't tell you how slow I was to learn some of life's most simple lessons.
This one isn't really a Valentine's song, but I really love it....
So, anyway, I hope many of you get or give roses and chocolates and kisses (real and chocolate) and that you feel and know that you are loved. Of course, I wish that for you every day, but the roses and stuff I especially wish for you on Valentine's Day because it's just so much in the air for it to happen that it's kind of like being left out when it doesn't. Or at least that's the way it feels to me even though I have nobody to send me flowers and if they did Angel would destroy them within minutes or die trying. But I'm rambling mindlessly now and wallowing in a puddle of self pity. Sorry.
Some things I'm grateful for today: (items in red are pre-gratitude - an effort to encourage fast and efficient action by the Universe on my behalf.)
Daily Reminder # 258
I didn't have any new photos so I tried messing
with a few of the tree branches again...
Not much news from Hancock. It's cold but we only had a little snow. On really good news side of things, the post office boycotted me yet again today, but turns out my neighbor is out of prison so he came over and spent and hour or so dismantling the roof snow mountain, so hopefully on Monday, I'll get my package and a load of back mail. Yippee!
For the rest, I'm going to let Neale Donald Walsh do my job again this evening. This is a nice one, though, I think.
On this day of your life, dear friend,
I believe God wants you to know...
.that everything you see, hear, touch, taste, smell, or
sense in any way is an aspect of Divinity.
It is when you judge it to be something else
that it shows up as something else in your life.
Therefore, judge not,and neither condemn.
For that which you judge, judges you;
and that which you condemn will condemn you.
Yet that which you see for what it really is
will see you for what you really are.
And therein will be found your peace.
Love, Your Friend....
Daily Reminder # 257
Please scroll down for the Weekly Wordzzle Challenge...
I was so profoundly moved by how peaceful this revolution was.
I'm so thrilled about the outcome in Egypt. I really hope that the peaceful nature of how these awesome people achieved their goal rewards them with an outcome that will make their lives truly free and truly better. And that it will teach others in this world that peaceful action by large groups of people has tremendous power. And in the middle east, perhaps focus on those who truly oppress them, will drain much of the energy of making the US the scapegoat for all the world's ills. We are not undeserving of criticism, but we are not - as I read someone post at Huffington Post last week - "the most evil country in the history of the world."  Maybe the inspiration of seeing people who have truly been oppressed, will defuel some of the nonsense that comes out of the mouths of the Sarah Palin's of this world too. I know I'm compulsively optimistic. But ya never know....
Sort of all over the place in this post, theme-wise.  Sorry.  I don't have any photos again tonight, so I thought I'd look for something I find inspiring and thought provoking. For some reason Bill Gates came to mind and I found this lecture, which is long, but worth listening to.
Weekly Wordzzle Challenge # 142
Friday seems to be whizzing around with incredible speed of late. It's time for Wordzzles again. I had a good time this week. My contributions are really silly but I had fun writing them, so...
Words for this week's 10-word challenge were: sweetness, soap opera, leather jacket, matches, corn, pregnant, operation, mustache, crib, earrings and for the mini: closet, camera, cheese, flagrant, music
For my mega:
Lucinda was glued to the TV, quietly nibbling the grilled cheese sandwich in her had as she eagerly awaited the opening music of her favorite soap opera, the Corn Grows High. Today was the day that Sweetness O'Malley was supposed to have her operation. The operation was particularly risky because Sweetness was 5 months pregnant. The father of the baby was still unknown. Although Sweetness hoped and believed that it belonged to her boyfriend Alphonso (totally dreamy, especially since he had gotten rid of that ridiculous mustache, Lucinda thought), it was equally possible that it belonged to Alphonso's twin brother Chico who had in an act of flagrantly evil betrayal, gotten her drunk on New Year's Eve, pretending to be Alphonso and had seduced her into innocently betraying the man she loved. She was keeping this horror a secret from Alphonso because she knew the truth would break his tender heart. Alas, she didn't know yet that Chico - the evil antithesis of his gentle brother - had not just defiled her, but had recorded the event on a hidden camera.
Now adding to the stress and drama - the surgery (a bone marrow transplant) which she must have to save her life- puts the baby's life at risk. Because of her rare blood type, the hospital is seeking matches but so far have found none. Lucinda, polishes off the last of her sandwich, tears steaming down her cheeks, as Sweetness (exquisitely dressed in a sensational leather jacket and hoop earrings) sits weeping by the crib which Alphonso has crafted with his own hands for the baby who may die because of her surgery and who may not even be his. The camera, which has been doing a dramatic close-up on Sweetness' troubled and tear-stained face, now pulls back to reveal a 4th player in this romantic hodge-podge: Doctor Sandra Stinknee, who is also secretly in love with Alphonso and originally paid Chico to seduce Sweetness, whom she feels is unworthy of the man she herself loves. She had not expected the complication of the baby or Sweetness' illness and is torn between her jealousy and her inherent medical ethics and compassion. What have I done? she whispers and sobs into her hands. A few minutes later, Chico pulls her into janitor's closet, where he asks her with a sly grin... "having second thoughts, are you, Doc?"  Serves you right, witch, Lucinda mutters, still weeping. Then, wiping away her tears, she heads to the kitchen for a glass of water, muttering to herself. "Why do I watch this stupid show? It's so annoying," but none-the-less races back to make sure she is in her seat before the commercials end and the show returns.
My 10-word:
Playing idly with a book of matches someone had left on his desk, Stan Winford, thought that he was one of the luckiest men alive. He loved writing for the soap opera, The Corn Grows High.  He knew it was crap, but it paid incredibly well and allowed him to let his imagination run wild to come up with the most absurd and convoluted plots that were just plain fun to concoct and that allowed him to laugh all the way to the bank. His own entry into the business had something of a soap opera quality itself. Six years ago, he had needed an emergency surgery for his apendix. Two major life changes had come out of this one event. Following the operation, he had shared a room with a very witty gentleman named Fred Fargo, whose flamboyant mustache had amused made him a big hit with the nurses. His roommate, who took a great liking to him, turned out to be the executive producer of The Corn Grows High. Fred's beautiful daughter visited often and also took a great liking to him. One offered him a job and the other accepted his offer of marriage. Pretty good outcome for one small surgery. Now he and his pregnant wife lived in an awesome "crib" on the Upper West Side of New York. For Valentine's day he had bought them matching leather jackets and in the pocket of hers had placed a pair of diamond earrings and a matching bracelet with the name of the baby she was due to give birth to in just a few short weeks. His life had a sweetness he could never have imagined growing up in the slums of Chicago or even entering the hospital six years ago, screaming in pain. Life might not be as crazy as a soap opera, but it had its moments.
And the mini:  music
"Great Balls of Cheese,"  Sam Henderson muttered, looking into the unbelievably crammed closet in disbelief. He pulled his cell phone out of his pocket and deftly used its camera to photograph what he would later call "the scene of the crime."  He had known his soon to be ex-wife had a flagrant disregard for the reality of how much she had in the bank and how much she wanted to spend, but he had not expected this. Looking more closely at the closet's contents, he realized that some of these clothes were stolen. This lifted his mood considerably and he left her house whistling happily. The divorce process was acrimonious to say the least. She had been demanding a huge amount of alimony, threatening to claim spousal abuse. Tonight, he would show her these photos. Tonight he would suggest that she say the phrase that would be music to his hears... no contest... or he would make sure that others learned what she had done. Tonight, he chanted happily, I will be a free man again. Yee ha!
Word for next week's 10-word challenge: Pluto, space ship, make-up, peerless, wishing well, baby shower, cabbage, angels, ample bodied, plunge
And for the mini: chapter six, clams, spark plug, hustle and bustle, fragments
Thanks you for playing.  Newcomers can check here for some guidelines to make the game more fun. There are no rules, just some general guidelines and tricks.
Daily Reminder # 256
First an update on yesterday's snow mountain drama. Both the garbage man and the Schwan's guy stepped over the mountain as though it was nothing. The post office will have none of me, though, so I don't know when I'll get my package from the vitamin store. Hopefully there will be some melting, but it's very cold (MINUS 8 degrees as I type this), so I don't know. I may see if I can get her to deliver my stuff to the neighbors and ask Shannon to bring it to me. We will see.
Other than that, it was an odd and sort of frustrating day for no real reason. I continue to be awed by the dignity of he Egyptian people. Such huge crowds with such courage and such a willingness to stand for their rights without being violent about it. It is awesome and profound and I think it is where their strength lies, which is why I hope they don't let themselves be tricked into becoming violent. I may be a dreamer but I somehow think these people are going to win. There is something so solid and sure in their stand, so determined. I hope so. They have earned something good and not the same old thing or replacing one dictator with some other form of corruption or brutality.  In any case, I hope that they hold firm to their vision and know that change - even when it is happening - sometimes reveals itself slowly to the heart and eye.
Daily Reminder # 255
Don't have any photos tonight, and I'm sitting here feeling a bunch of semi-negative emotions. First, I put the garbage out and noticed that I am completely blocked in. The roof snow has come down and made the house there is a high mountain of snow between the world and access to my door and mail box. I don't remember hearing it come down during the day, so I fear maybe it is just beyond the strength of the lady who has been keeping my yard cleared. Tomorrow is garbage day but I don't see how he'll be able to get to it. And there's a package from at the post office that they won't be able to deliver that I was looking forward to receiving. It's also Schwann's grocery day and I don't see how he'll get to me either. Fortunately, I keep a supply of food that will last me for quite a while. So, anyway... my inner worrier is partying. It's not the worst thing in the world. It's 9 degrees out so if my garbage sits there for another week, it's not likely to draw any predators. It's also topped with cat litter, which I imagine will make it less attractive. In any case, I hope the mountain goes away but if it doesn't, I will survive.
But what is really just making me feel exasperated is a program on the Oprah network called Miracle Detectives. It's a man and a woman who investigate so-called miracles. He's a believer, but sort of doofy and passive and she's supposedly a scientist and a skeptic. She's actually more an idiot in my opinion. Her "scientific" reasons for why she doesn't believe things are not very scientific. The one that really irks me is a case where they visited a medical intuitive. She set up a test where she brought a man who had just had surgery on his shoulder for the intuitive to "read."  The guy claimed to be 90% accurate, which I think is probably a stretch for anybody. So he goes into a room and he comes up with six things. An ear and sinus infection, a circulation problem in the left leg, a heart murmur and digestive issues. Doesn't mention the shoulder. He does this in a separate room without meeting the person he's assessing. When they share his findings, the guy himself is blown away. He has been having trouble with his right ear, does in fact have a serious circulation problem in his right leg and has been troubled with digestive problems for the past couple of weeks. No mention of a heart murmur, but this "scientific" assessment didn't think to include a doctor to assess the reading. Is our skeptic impressed that 3 unmentioned and rather significant problems were read by this man? Nope. He failed completely in her eyes because he didn't mention a shoulder which was painful but had already been operated on. Argh. She had some reason why none of the things he did point out were significant because he had failed a test which wasn't a very good way to test an intuitive who's aim is to diagnose unrecognized problems. The whole show is like this. Her counterpart isn't much better. He believes everything.  Doubt is a healthy thing, but so many so-called "scientific" doubters aren't scientific at all and that just makes me cranky. They also hold intuitives to a higher standard. Do we say someone isn't a doctor because they miss something when someone comes to them? I don't think so.
So this isn't a very positive message tonight because it makes me sad/cranky when people refuse to experience the miracles around them. On the other hand, I have turned on CNN and was listening to a young Egyptian talking about being willing to die to free his country. I have been so awed by both the courage of the protesters in Egypt - and their non-violence. It's powerful. It's awesome. I hope they achieve a government worthy of them.
Some things I'm grateful for today: (items in red are pre-gratitude in hopes of encouraging the Universe to get manifesting on my behalf.)
This isn't a very good picture of the
snow wall and it was taken a week
and a half ago, so it's taller now. The
snow at the far end hadn't fallen
before but now it matches this. I
can't wait for Spring to arrive....
