Daily Reminder # 255

Don't have any photos tonight, and I'm sitting here feeling a bunch of semi-negative emotions. First, I put the garbage out and noticed that I am completely blocked in. The roof snow has come down and made the house there is a high mountain of snow between the world and access to my door and mail box. I don't remember hearing it come down during the day, so I fear maybe it is just beyond the strength of the lady who has been keeping my yard cleared. Tomorrow is garbage day but I don't see how he'll be able to get to it. And there's a package from at the post office that they won't be able to deliver that I was looking forward to receiving. It's also Schwann's grocery day and I don't see how he'll get to me either. Fortunately, I keep a supply of food that will last me for quite a while. So, anyway... my inner worrier is partying. It's not the worst thing in the world. It's 9 degrees out so if my garbage sits there for another week, it's not likely to draw any predators. It's also topped with cat litter, which I imagine will make it less attractive. In any case, I hope the mountain goes away but if it doesn't, I will survive.

But what is really just making me feel exasperated is a program on the Oprah network called Miracle Detectives. It's a man and a woman who investigate so-called miracles. He's a believer, but sort of doofy and passive and she's supposedly a scientist and a skeptic. She's actually more an idiot in my opinion. Her "scientific" reasons for why she doesn't believe things are not very scientific. The one that really irks me is a case where they visited a medical intuitive. She set up a test where she brought a man who had just had surgery on his shoulder for the intuitive to "read."  The guy claimed to be 90% accurate, which I think is probably a stretch for anybody. So he goes into a room and he comes up with six things. An ear and sinus infection, a circulation problem in the left leg, a heart murmur and digestive issues. Doesn't mention the shoulder. He does this in a separate room without meeting the person he's assessing. When they share his findings, the guy himself is blown away. He has been having trouble with his right ear, does in fact have a serious circulation problem in his right leg and has been troubled with digestive problems for the past couple of weeks. No mention of a heart murmur, but this "scientific" assessment didn't think to include a doctor to assess the reading. Is our skeptic impressed that 3 unmentioned and rather significant problems were read by this man? Nope. He failed completely in her eyes because he didn't mention a shoulder which was painful but had already been operated on. Argh. She had some reason why none of the things he did point out were significant because he had failed a test which wasn't a very good way to test an intuitive who's aim is to diagnose unrecognized problems. The whole show is like this. Her counterpart isn't much better. He believes everything.  Doubt is a healthy thing, but so many so-called "scientific" doubters aren't scientific at all and that just makes me cranky. They also hold intuitives to a higher standard. Do we say someone isn't a doctor because they miss something when someone comes to them? I don't think so.

So this isn't a very positive message tonight because it makes me sad/cranky when people refuse to experience the miracles around them. On the other hand, I have turned on CNN and was listening to a young Egyptian talking about being willing to die to free his country. I have been so awed by both the courage of the protesters in Egypt - and their non-violence. It's powerful. It's awesome. I hope they achieve a government worthy of them.

Some things I'm grateful for today: (items in red are pre-gratitude in hopes of encouraging the Universe to get manifesting on my behalf.)

This isn't a very good picture of the
snow wall and it was taken a week
and a half ago, so it's taller now. The
snow at the far end hadn't fallen
before but now it matches this. I
can't wait for Spring to arrive....

Is it bad that I like it when you're cranky? You usually have good reasons (except for when you beat your own self down).

You're right about the garbage, & you do have food - so let's hope the post office lives up to its motto!

Hi Bug - I'm glad you enjoy my crankiness. Amazingly, after all my worry, the garbage guy climbed over the snow like it was nothing. Not sure the same will be true for the lady who delivers my mail, but the Schwan's guy will probably also take it in stride (I hope). There's profit in it for him, which gives him extra incentive.

This snow is really getting old, isn't it? We had record snowfall yesterday...about 20-24 inches. Not very expected in the South. No school again today or tomorrow. That makes 12 so far. I see a short summer in my future.

I guess I'm breaking my pattern and replying to people today. Sorry about the 20-24 inches. We've been lucky on that score. Lots of deep snow around us but only about 6 here.

Update on the mountain. The mail lady chose not to climb it. Still to be determined whether or not Schwan's guy does. I may see if I can get my young neighbor to come and lower it if she can.
